Makarska Riviera

The Makarska Riviera is a 45-50 km long strip along the Adriatic Road (Jadranska magistrala) with numerous towns and bays and is limited on the land side by the massif of the Biokovo Mountains. Lined up on a string of pearls are towns like Brela, Baška Voda, Bratuš, Promajna, Tučepi, Drvenik and Gradac to name a few. It is very popular, be it package tourists, bathers or individual tourists, or with the weary party people in midsummer, such as on the Makarska hotel page, which is also due to the very good water quality of the beaches. There are many with a blue flag. From relaxation to partying - something for everyone.

The best way to get to the Makarska Riviera is via Kaštela Airport near Split, you want to protect the environment with Long-distance bus. The bigger villages along the coast are served by most lines, the smaller ones are good from Bus station in Makarska to reach.

The port city of Makarska located at the foot of the Biokovo Mountains is a wonderful starting point for Hiking and mountain tours in the mountain range. I feel Makarska as a city with two hearts in its chest. On the one hand there is the "newer city" with its extensive city beach, the big hotels and the hustle and bustle and on the other the old town with the small port and the subsequent Forest parks "Sveti Petar" and the Forest park "Osejava"that frame the harbor entrance on the coast. The mountains in the back are the gateway to the Biokovo wilderness with its highest elevation, the "Sveti Jure" with 1762 meters. Makarska is also a good starting point for trips to the hinterland or to the island of Brač Ferry routes several times a day to Sumartin from the port.
